@rysiek @phoe @MacLemon soon we can tag evan in all our historical gripes cause he is updating pump.io with #activitypub

Hey fellow #developers, looking to create an #activitypub platform? Here's some ideas I've seen tossed around:

* podcast
* dating
* alternative to evernote
* alternative to asana

Are there already enough #ActivityPub users/developers to have a barcamp?

If you missed it yesterday: @nicoalt has written a proposal for integrating #fdroid packages with #mastodon/#activitypub! The best thing about this proposal? It could in the future power comments and popularity of apps in F-Droid. 😍

I think the problem with the connection between #misskey and #Hubzilla (via #ActivityPub ) is that the former is translating Hubzilla #WebFinger incorrectly.

For example: @username@example.com becomes @username@https://example.com/channel/username.

I could be wrong but all other ActivityPub connections were in the format @username@example.com after a successful connection from Misskey's end.

How to test:
  • On a Misskey instance, add a Hubzilla channel - this should be successful

I've been testing federation between different platforms and networks for a while, there seems to be a bug somewhere between #Pleroma and #Hubzilla . Anyone else who is more capable and see which project we should file a bug report? (Or maybe, I just did something wrong…)

Here's what I did:
  • On a Pleroma instance: add a Hubzilla channel
  • In a Hubzilla instance, you won't receive a connection request
  • Post a new status in Hubzilla, it won't appear on Pleroma
  • Add manually the Pleroma account that added your Hubzilla channel
  • Post a new status in Hubzilla, it will now show up on Pleroma
Since Pleroma is using #ActivityPub (and also #... mehr anzeigen

New section on switching.social, for blogging alternatives. The first entry is write.as:

https://switching.social/ethical-alternatives-to-medium/

It would be nice to have a wider range of blogging alternatives too, perhaps alternatives to Tumblr, Blogger and Livejournal?

If you have any suggestions, let me know.

(#Plume is still in alpha testing)

The privacy-conscious blogging service write.as now has #ActivityPub federation available for all its blogs. For privacy reasons, federation is off by default, so blog owners have to activate it from their "Customize" page.

You can follow write.as blogs through other activitypub services such as #Mastodon.

You can sign up for a federated blog here:

https://write.as/new/blog/federated

The basic accounts are free, and there are also paid accounts with additional features. There are no ads or tracking on any of the accounts.

Who wants to work with me and @dajbelshaw, developing the #ActivityPub based #federated back-end for #MoodleNet?

We're looking for a #developer familiar with #Elixir (or transferable skills like #Erlang and #RubyOnRails).

The whole project will be #FOSS and you can work from home, what's not to love 😉 Please RT!

Why we need to break out from these corporations…

\#Blender Foundation has been having issues with their YouTube-hosted videos for close to a year now and it has gotten worse. Their videos won't play in certain countries unless they accept new agreements simply because #YouTube is launching a new subscription service for ad-free viewing.

Of course, for their subscription service to be attractive, all videos must have advertisements. This is a problem for content creators and organisations if they chose not to show any type of advertisements on their channels and videos. The YouTube specialists claimed it was "a mix of coincidences, bad UIs, wrong error messages, ignorant support desks and our non-standard decision to not monetize a popular Youtube channel".

As someone who also have a few videos in YouTube from way back, I know how chaotic and clueless their support channels are (and we're not even going to go there).

Falling deeper down the endless #refactoring hole with #Socialhome + #ActivityPub support

Bild/Foto

Currently working on totally dropping guid and handle from content and profiles. They can always be calculated for remote objects that have them from the federated ID (which for #diaspora is for example diaspora://user@domain.tld/profile/1234), for those who have it. For sending local objects outbound, I will add an uuid copied from guid (but using a proper UUIDField) and generate a diaspora URI using the local UUID and username.

So. Much. Code. To. Change. :P Which is fun since initially I thought the Socialhome changes would be limited, and was expecting to do most of the work on the #federation library. However it feels like this refactoring should not be skipped while there is a chance to clean things up.

First #litepub meeting was a good success 🤘

https://www.pleroma.site/notice/3134305

What is Litepub? A strictly defined subset of #Activitypub that will allow easy implementation, but be compatible also with other Activitypub implementations, where possible.

Heh, no #ActivityPub enabled software can connect to @libravatar@identi.ca . I tried #Hubzilla , #Pleroma , and #Mastodon . Hubzilla (my hub/instance) even have the old #OStatus protocol running (I think Pleroma and Mastodon too). Did identi.ca disconnected from the world or did pump.io disconnected after W3C recommended ActivityPub? Or I guess it's running an old pump.io version or something.

Are there now any functional #alternatives to #reddit already, that have implemented #activitypub successfully? I remember seeing #tildes and @prismo and @tuxether or some other services in the #fediverse some time ago, but they seemed not to be ready and useable yet

A lot of people thinking about switching from #Twitter to #Mastodon right now, for many different reasons.

Ever heard of dev.io? Well, as they are #FLOSS now, I've suggested them to add #ActivityPub support: https://github.com/thepracticaldev/dev.to/issues/317

#devIo

@jdormit @pfefferle is/was working on one. they built the previous incarnation which was an #ostatus plugin for wordpress which is the precursor to #activitypub

I'm thinking about building an #ActivityPub plugin for #Wordpress. Does anyone know if something like that already exists? Is anyone else interested in that?

The minimalist #blogging service write.as has started federating with #ActivityPub.

You can now follow their blogs through #Mastodon and other AP services. If you want to try it out, you can follow the service's own official blog (paste this address into the search box on Mastodon, and it will give you the option to follow it):

@blog@write.as

Write.as is also working on releasing their code so that others can start their own instances.

Does your #golang #activitypub application use go-fed? Want free and cheap marketing? Want to put an end to the universal increase of entropy*?

Let me know some details in the linked github issue, so I can update the go-fed README with it!

@rapnie Well yes onboarding worked well here too, but I know a bunch of users who use such services but do not use or know about email. Plus: At times I wonder whether we already have too many different projects around #activitypub , given an overally small developer base. Maybe focussing on one or two and making them substantially better than the rest would be better ... ? @bjoern

@bjoern I'm afraid we're still way too focussed on core technologies (such as #ActivityPub) and way too little focussed on making them easily accessible to a wide range of end users for that to completely work out. 😐

There's now an #ActivityPub multiplayer chess server which can be accessed through any ActivityPub microblogging service (such as #Mastodon):

https://castling.club/

Instructions are all on the site, you basically message each other using chess notation and the server displays it on a board. Ongoing games are shown on the site.

You can now challenge someone to game of #chess over toots! https://castling.club/ 💪

It's actually a standalone server in the #fediverse, implementing #activitypub all by itself. 😃

go-fed #activitypub Official Implementation report has been submitted: https://github.com/w3c/activitypub/issues/318

It's valid for v0.2.0 onwards. Which was released today. Expect the site to pick up that version and generate the documentation sometime within the next 23 hours or so.

It's been a 6 month journey to this point. A LONG side-project journey for me. When I began, AP wasn't even finalized yet, and I was full of self-doubt.

Thanks everyone who's been supportive. Doubly thankful for those using the library!

Taking a moment to thank @switchingsocial for the work and dedication you put into bringing people into the #fediverse. Thank you for promoting all of the #ActivityPub based projects that are happening currently, your efforts are definitely noticed!

ActivityPub was only finished in March of this year, its awesome to see so many new implementations. The summer isn't over yet 😉

It is really exciting to see all this projects based on #ActivityPub. Great to see the raise of all this free, federated and open solutions. I have the feeling that we might be at a turning point where we can finally build the momentum to regain control over the internet.

Danke an:
#Jahrestag

Interested in #federated #code hosting, read #GitHub, #GitLab, #Gitea, #Gogs and that kind of platforms, but being able to cooperate across instances on issues, pull request and so on? Think of #Diaspora or #Mastodon, but for code hosting.

The #ForgeFed (ex #GitPub) working group is working on #ActivityPub extensions to make this possible. We're currently collecting user stories from interested parties, to ensure that the extensions are fit for the majority of use cases that are likely to be needed.

You can #contribute in the wiki by adding yours, see this page. If you don't have an account, user stories are still welcome, see the information in the page.

It seems, after some hours of working on #ActivityPub for my #federation library, I wont possibly be using the little-boxes AP library for providing functionality. I realized starting the process that since my library is not going to be a fully featured AP library, but a #Python API abstraction of only certain features of several protocols, I will be better off writing my code myself. little-boxes is a very generic AP library which makes a strong design decision on how to use it via custom backends. This is problematic for the way my library is structured.

But, since I already declared the next Python federation library release will not support anything under Python 3.6, this means #Socialhome will also not be supported under Python 3.6 for the next release.

Btw, f-strings are really cool and nice to work with ❤ Also finally, type annotations.
