#Mastodon celebrates it's two year anniversary. It is really impressive what all the people together with @Gargron achieved. Not only with Mastodon as such but also the underlaying technology #ActivityPub and the rich ecosystem of apps and tool around it. Thanks to all the people who made it happen! I'm sure the free, decentralized and open web has a bright future! #fediverse

Going to try to volunteer for #ActivityPub at FOSDEM 2019. Even if I can't volunteer, I'm hoping to attend. Hope to see some of y'all there.

The biggest improvement the library needs really is the possibility to hook on to storage backends to make it not necessary for apps to need any #federated global identifiers at all. Currently apps have to store both #diaspora handle and guid, but also #activitypub ID's. Future refactoring 🤘

There are many things of my #Python #federation that I would change if I had the time. But there are also things I like. Like the #protocol agnostic high level incoming and outgoing functions to allow apps to not care who they are sending to. And the entity mappers which basically are responsible of taking in a protocol payload and returning a list of entities. In this case the entities are the library entities, ready to be consumed by the app, irregardless of the protocol they came in with.

While building #ActivityPub support for the mappers I'm basically just copying the #Diaspora mapper tests, marking everything with @skip and then adjusting the the input parameters and mapper code one test at a time to make them pass while keeping the same assertions. This ensures the same end result of the mappers, irregardless whether the protocol payload was activitypub or diasopra.

Cool to hear #Moodle also implementing #ActivityPub 👍

How are "Hug" Activities not a thing in #ActivityPub

How can I send hugs (only to those that want hugs).

ActivityStreams extension here we come.

Do you want to help shape open federated alternatives like @pixelfed, @prismo , @anfora and @funkwhale ?

You can do so very easily at:

https://socialhub.network/

It's a set of forums where anyone can give feedback and ideas for these projects directly to the developers. You don't need to be a coder to take part.

Just a clarification. #Hubzilla is not a small network, if I remember correctly, it was the first to implement #ActivityPub. It is also connected to the old #OStatus protocol which is itself not small either. It is also connected to #Diaspora protocol.

#Friendica is already testing #ActivityPub connection, which itself is connected to diaspora and OStatus.

They are actually bigger currently, as far as network is concerned.

Again, just clarifying that these are not "small". I'm not talking about which platform to use. 😀

If you're interested in #ActivityPub and #Federation, technically speaking, you'll probably want to have a read at our documentation on the subject.

If you want to drop a review and help to improve it, your feedback is welcome on https://code.eliotberriot.com/funkwhale/funkwhale/merge_requests/435

At the very least, it looks like they're open to implementing #ActivityPub where it makes sense in the reference implementation:

#GangGo v1.0.0-alpha.12 #release with first #activitypub implementation. Lets see what it brings us ;)

Nobody ever asked me to build #ActivityPub server software for real human money uguuu

Evan Prodromou (who is the grandfather of federated microblogging, I don't think you wouldn't be here without them.) is hiring someone to work on ActivityPub software.

Very good article! It says that thanks to #ActivityPub, you can have one account somewhere and communicate with other platforms. But if I want to have a good blog, share nice videos, toot (twitt) like crazy, and be social, I would need a Plume account, a PeerTube account, a Mastodone account and a SocialHome account, and I don't want to put all these long accounts on my visit card. I want a single username for all of them. Is this possible/desirable with ActivityPub? What do you think?

What is #ActivityPub, and how will it change the #internet? – Jeremy Dormitzer

If I move pixelfed from github, it will be to a federated git host. I spent a few hours working on this old project 😉 #activitypub #fediverse

Following some inspiration from @sir I've implemented CSS only expandable comments for my WIP #activitypub reddit alternative.

@eliotberriot, le "papa" de #Funkwhale a décidé de quitter son emploi pour se concentrer à 100% sur l'aventure. C'est une super nouvelle !

Ça veut aussi dire qu'il va falloir commencer à penser à faire des dons. 😛

@favstarmafia Ich hab mir zufälligerweise gestern mal @write_as angeschaut. Sah ganz nett aus.

Ansonsten gibt's hier noch 'ne ganz schöne Auflistung zu einigen Projekten:

Terribly stuck on the refactoring of my #federation library to prepare for #ActivityPub support. The problem is trying to provide a stable and always fully unique identifier for objects and actors from #Diaspora entities. This simply isn't possible because Diaspora doesn't have all the data needed in the entities. A GUID alone for example doesn't allow generating a resolvable URL. For example a comment, it's impossible to retrieve the parent object if it isn't known locally.

I think I'm going to just have to continue with the refactoring, taking a step back and redo some of the previously redone work 🙁 Otherwise the library will instead of "simple Python API for multiple protocols" be "complex shit the author doesn't even know what it should be for multiple protocols" :/

This is a setback of at least 1-2 weeks in getting ActivityPub for #Socialhome, unfortunately.

You can see a demo of #blogging service write.as federating through #ActivityPub on this video:

Unfortunately after initial testing with the new version of the #federation library that refactors things internally so that #ActivityPub support can be added I realized I went a bit overboard in the simplification. Minor setback, some reversal refactoring and a little extra complication into the "outbound" process.

Inbound is still as simple as this, since inbound payloads will always have only one definitive globally unique URL scheme ID.

For outbound I it becomes a little trickier in the event that the payload will need to be sent to multiple networks. In the event that the referenced object is from a #... mehr anzeigen

so now that features are really starting to diverge between different #activitypub sites we really need a way to come together and decide how these little bits can fit together. for instance #misskey has a ton of features they have implemented recently like polls and reactions other then 'star',

the masto fork now.kibousoft.co.jp has implemented #bbcode in their instance and it looked like misskey is doing something similar with
